European Accident Statement

Sort out the paperwork before you both drive off.

This is the European Accident Statement. Every insurer in Europe knows this form. Now it is on your phone. You start a report and send the other driver a link. Each of you fills in your own half, on your own phone. You both sign on screen. Then the same PDF lands in both inboxes. No app. No account. No cost.

Before you sign

You do not admit fault by filling this in and signing it.

You only write down what happened. Time, place, cars, number plates, insurers, damage, how it went. Who pays is decided later by the insurers. Not by a signature at the roadside.

We are Clevergutachten, independent car damage assessors in Germany. The rest of this site is in German. Diese Seite auf Deutsch

Three steps

From the roadside to a finished PDF.

Count on 10 to 20 minutes from the first tap to the PDF. It depends on how much damage there is. You can stop at any time. Nothing you have typed is lost.

1

Start a report, share the link

Starting takes seconds. You get a link and a QR code. The other driver points their camera at your screen. Now they are in. No app. No account. No sign-up.

2

Fill it in together, one half each

Some things you share. Time, place, witnesses, the drawing. You both see them change live. Your car, your insurer and your damage stay yours. Neither of you can change what the other one wrote.

3

Sign, then get the PDF

You both sign with a fingertip. Then you get a PDF. It looks like the printed European form, boxes 1 to 15. Your drawing and your photos are in it. It goes to both email addresses.

Against the form in the glovebox

The paper form is never where the accident is.

And when it is in the glovebox, it is the copy from 2013. The pen has dried out. The drawing happens on a wet bonnet. Here are 6 things that work better on a phone.

A drawing you can actually read

On paper you draw in the rain. On a wet bonnet. With a pen that has dried out. Here you drag cars, arrows and lane markings into place. Turn them until the picture matches what happened.

Nothing gets forgotten

The form walks you through every box. It shows what is still missing before you sign. On paper you spot the missing insurance number at home. By then the other driver is long gone.

You both keep the same file

No carbon copy that smudges. No single sheet that one of you drives off with. You both get the same file. Same answers, both signatures.

Works with a bad signal

Your answers stay on your phone first. They go out as soon as you have signal again. A car park under ground does not stop you. A dead spot on a country road does not either.

Time and place are saved right away

Let the report use your clock and your location. Then it fills both in for you. These are the 2 details nobody notes at the scene. And everybody asks for them later.

English and German, side by side

You read in English. The other driver reads in German. You still fill in the same form. That saves you both a talk in hand signals by the road.

To be honest with you

What this report is not.

Not an expert report

This report says how the accident happened. It puts no price on anything. What the repair costs. How much value your car has lost. How long your car is off the road. And what it was worth if it is a write-off. All of that belongs in a separate expert report.

Not a message to your insurer

Your insurer does not hear about the crash just because you filled this in. You still have to tell them yourself. The PDF is what you send them. It does not send itself.

If the accident was not your fault

Our work starts where the report ends.

Not your fault? Then you choose your own assessor. That is German law. And the insurance of the driver who caused it pays for the report. So it costs you nothing. We usually look at the car within 24 hours, wherever it is. We also count 2 more things: the value your car has lost, and the days you cannot use it. Both are often left out when you deal with the insurer alone.

There is more on our Schadengutachten page. Or tell us about your case on the contact form. Both pages are in German. We answer in English by phone and by email.

Common questions

The things people ask us at the roadside.

Will my insurer accept a digital report?

There is no law that says which form you must use. What counts is what is in it, not the paper. Our PDF follows the European Accident Statement, boxes 1 to 15. Both signatures are on it. Your insurer may want its own claim form. Then you still have every detail in one place. You do not have to dig it all up again.

Do I have to print anything?

No. You both get the same PDF by email at the end. That is all you need. Send it to your insurer, your lawyer or your assessor. You can print it if you want. Nothing depends on it.

What if the other driver has no phone?

Then use yours. Open the link for the other driver on your phone. Hand the phone over. They type in their details and sign on your screen. They only need an email address as well.

What if more than 2 cars were involved?

The European form is made for exactly 2 cars. So make one report per pair. One between car 1 and car 2. Another one between car 2 and car 3. Are even more cars involved? Then call the police. That is the better way.

Does a signature on a screen count?

The report is not a contract. No law says it has to be on paper. It is evidence. It shows what you both agreed at the scene. A signature on screen is enough for that. It is saved in the PDF with the name and the exact time.

Do I admit fault when I sign?

No. The paper form says the same thing. Your signature only says that the description is correct. It does not say who has to pay. The insurers decide that later. And each of you can write your own view in the remarks box.

What happens to my data?

Your answers sit on our server. Only the 2 report links open them. Without the second link, nobody gets into that half. We delete an unfinished report after 30 days. A finished one after 90 days. The details are in our privacy policy. It is in German.

Do I have to call the police in Germany?

Often not. German police usually do not come to a simple crash. That is true if only cars are damaged. It is also true if it is clear who caused it. And if you both agree. They do not have to come. But call them if someone is hurt. Call them if the other driver drives off. Call them if they will not show their papers. Call them if alcohol or drugs may be in play. Call them if you cannot agree on what happened. A foreign car, a hire car or a company car is also a good reason. Then you have an official record.

What does it cost?

Nothing. No account. No subscription. No hidden costs. We check car damage for a living. We built this for one reason. We see it every week: people lose money because the accident report was never filled in properly.

Can I fill it in on my own?

Yes. At the start you pick "both drivers together" or "just me". Pick "just me" if you hit an animal. Or for hail. Or for a crash with no other car. Or for a dent in a car park when the other driver drove off. There is no second person then. You sign alone.

Can I come back to a report later?

Yes. Your phone remembers the report. It stays open for 30 days. So write down the important things at the scene. Add the rest in peace later. This works as long as the other driver has not closed their half.

Does this replace an expert damage report?

No. And it is not meant to. This report says how the accident happened. It puts no price on the damage. That comes from a separate expert report. It says what the repair costs. It says how much value your car has lost. And it says how long your car is off the road.

Still standing next to each other? Then do it now.

Everything you agree on now is something nobody has to dig up weeks later. Starting the report takes seconds.
